Inspired by my time living in the desert and the delightful, bobbing quail that were constant neighbors, this “oldie but goodie” is a love letter to that unique landscape. This special piece is part of the inkyplume Heritage Collection. It represents an earlier chapter of my creative journey and features my original “JFU” signature, marking the time before I officially transitioned to the inkyplume brand. It exemplifies the inkyplume “Modern Folk” style through its rhythmic patterns: the intricate U-shapes on the quail’s chest, the delicate linework on the yucca stems, and the whimsical, striped cacti in the distance. I wanted to capture the movement and playful personality of the quail while celebrating the bold, architectural beauty of desert flora. It’s a synthesis of personal memory and folk-art tradition, reimagined with a crisp, mid-century flair.
